Women in Karate ‘09

There was a small typographical error found in the original post. Here is the corrected version.

Karate Esprit, in collaboration with the University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM)

and the Quebec Hotel and Tourism Institute (ITHQ) are pleased to

present Women in Karate ’09.

What we have done is bring together a group of women who are international experts in the fields of traditional karate, officiating, sport karate, sport administration and jiu jitsu for one weekend in Montreal.

From May 29 – 31, regardless of who you are or what style you practice, you can come to the UQAM Sports Center to train with such instructors as:

1.     Norma Foster: 7th Dan, chair of the WKF Womens’ Sport Committee.

2.     Tatjana Petrovic: Former European / World medalist for Yugoslavia, and founder of the Best Woman Karate Championships.

3.     Mariève Blais: Former Canadian and Pan-American champion, and director of development for girls’ hockey at Hockey Quebec.

4.     Linda Crochiere: One of the few women in the world of koryu (i.e. the old Japanese warring arts) to hold a teaching license.

In addition, there will be presentations by Égale Action and SIRC Sport Research in the evening over dinner at the banquet facilities of the ITHQ. We hope that men and women near and far will come and enjoy a weekend of training with excellent martial artists and sport researchers with us. For your convenience we have attached the Women in Karate ‘09 Poster.

To have this kind of knowledge and experience come together for one event is a rare thing – we hope to see you in May!

Sincerely,

Anthony, Craig, Erdem, Lina and Sam

Latest from Japan

At an examination for 6th and 7th Dan candidates in Sendai (Japan), Norma Foster and three others attempted the test for their next dan grades. Norma was the only one who passed! In addition to her Kyoshi title, she is one of the few people in the JKF Wado Kai who as passed this examination. She is still the highest ranking woman in the JKF Wado Kai.

This comes on the heels of Bob Nash passing his 7th Dan examination earlier this year. This is great news for the Wado Kai federations in the United States and Canada, validating that the path Norma and Bob have chosen for themselves and their students is worth the work.

To all Wado Kai members in Canada, let’s have a beer and celebrate, eh?

US Wado Kai Forum

Mr. Bob Nash recently informed us that the online forum that is available on
the US Wado Kai web site is back up and running. Apparently a good clean up
was all that it needed. You can access this forum at: www.uswadokai.com/forum.
