Latest from Japan

At an examination for 6th and 7th Dan candidates in Sendai (Japan), Norma Foster and three others attempted the test for their next dan grades. Norma was the only one who passed! In addition to her Kyoshi title, she is one of the few people in the JKF Wado Kai who as passed this examination. She is still the highest ranking woman in the JKF Wado Kai.

This comes on the heels of Bob Nash passing his 7th Dan examination earlier this year. This is great news for the Wado Kai federations in the United States and Canada, validating that the path Norma and Bob have chosen for themselves and their students is worth the work.

To all Wado Kai members in Canada, let’s have a beer and celebrate, eh?

US Wado Kai Forum

Mr. Bob Nash recently informed us that the online forum that is available on
the US Wado Kai web site is back up and running. Apparently a good clean up
was all that it needed. You can access this forum at: www.uswadokai.com/forum.

Get the News, Your Way

The JKF Wado Kai Canada has a new addition to its’ web site, a blog. The big reason for adding this is to be able to centralize news of interest on to one area of the site. It will also allow us to use RSS to syndicate the news we publish here.

So, How do I get the news?

There are three ways to keep up to date with us now:

  1. Bookmark this page and check up on us regularly.
  2. Use an RSS reader to track this as an RSS feed, which is what this web log is.
  3. Use the email subscription option (on the right), to receive new stories by email.

The acronym RSS has stood for many things over the years, one of which is Really Simple Syndication. It is a document format structured so that programs called RSS Readers can keep people up to date with their favourite sites - without them having to visit each one.

Are there sites besides blogs that use this technology? YES:

  1. The BBC News has lots of feeds.
  2. So does the New York Times.
  3. And so does the CBC.

Don’t care to deal with another piece of software? Just subscribe using the email subscription link on the right. (Note: there will be zero spam related to this subscription!)

The images on the right are links that will allow people to add this feed to their favourite RSS reader. There are lots of ways to follow an RSS feed, using either software you download and install on your machine, opening an account with a web based reader, or getting a reader that works right in your browser. Here is an introduction to them.

All that to say, we hope that you jump on board and keep up to date with us!

Sincerely,
The JKF Wado Kai Canada.

We Have a New Membership Director

As some of you may know, Bob Edgett (New Brunswick) has been serving as our Membership Director for the last couple of years. He has recently accepted a new post with K.C.I., and will be based in their Halifax office. As a result, he will no longer be able to continue in his current role.

I would like to thank Bob for having taken this on, and I hope that everything goes well for him in his new role with K.C.I.

So, yours truly is (once again) the membership director until the next election. I have confirmed with Norma Foster that the fees will indeed be the same as last year. I will be double checking the Excel spreadsheet and posting it on the site shortly. Next year we expect the fees to decrease!

I will also set the deadline for registration at the same time that I update the Excel spreadsheet.

Best Regards,

Anthony Bhagwandin
